The upcoming gay rom-com A Nice Indian Boy has everything we never knew we needed: Bollywood, gay romance, and family chaos.
Starring Tony Award winner Jonathan Groff and Deadpool’s Karan Soni, A Nice Indian Boy serves up a sweet (and sometimes awkward) exploration of love, culture, and the clash between traditional values and the romance we deserve.
The official synopsis reads:
“When Naveen (Karan Soni), a soft spoken doctor, finally brings his charming white-artist boyfriend Jay (Jonathan Groff) home to meet his traditional Indian family, misunderstandings and emotional revelations put everyone on edge.
“Despite facing uncomfortable truths about their own ideas of love and marriage, the family attempts to plan the big Indian wedding of Naveen and Jay’s dreams.”
The film premiered at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival and also screened at the BFI London Film Festival in 2024, garnering praise from critics for its abundant humor and vibrant representation of the LGBTQ community in India.
This is a busy time for Groff. Not only does he have his new film dropping in a few weeks, but the out Tony Award winner is returning to Broadway this spring in Just In Time, a new musical about the life of legendary singer Bobby Darin.
Look for A Nice Indian Boy in theaters in the U.S. and Canada April 4.
